Biometric authentication is more secure, effective prevent phishing. But below are some cons: 1. difficult when get biometric sampling (as Iphone get face id sampling) 2. false positive. when we got first failed, will next failed and then the account will be locked as policy then must use code to unlock :D 3.When you are kidnapped, it is easier to be exploited and unlocked by using your fingerprint or face rather than using a password. Because if you use a password, it's in your head and if you don't tell it, the kidnapper can't open it. 4. technology is expensive.

Aquí difiero ligeramente, ya que he experimentado accesos no autorizados a mi información en dispositivos con seguridad biométrica, específicamente facial y de voz. Sin embargo, no he experimentado ningún acceso no autorizado en dispositivos que utilizan huellas dactilares. Tengo un hermano menor, con una diferencia de edad de 15 años, y él ha logrado acceder a mis dispositivos mediante la identificación por voz y facial. Aunque nuestras voces son diferentes en persona y hay parecido físico, él ha podido acceder a mis equipos sin problemas desde hace 10 años. Pensé que con las mejoras tecnológicas a lo largo de los años, esto ya no sería posible. Sin embargo, hace unos días hicimos una prueba y él logró entrar a mis dispositivos.

Two factor and Multi-factor authentication have been around for quite some time now. Biometric authentication has its own pros & cons, but given the new AI initiatives, behavioral authentication is in play, while the cushion for improvement is always there, and new technologies and systems are being researched and options are being explored.

MFA is great, but it’s not a silver bullet. Email, OTP, and call back options are phishable. Push notification suffers from a condition called push fatigue. Anyone serious about secure authentication should be cautious of these options. FIDO2 and PKI are more secure options, but require hardware such as Yubikeys or smart cards. IDaaS vendors may have their own MFA authenticators as well, such as FastPass which uses biometrics. Utilizing resources such as NIST guidance or consulting someone that has experience implement a solution can be invaluable in successful implantation. This process is finding the balance of properly securing the data while also providing an easy solution for the end user.

MFA is another piece of authentication mechanism widely used by many Financial, Communication and even retail for their online customers. Risk Based Authentication is the new trend in cyber security when it comes to MFA. AI and UBA can assume if that's you or not from your normal access footprint. MFA alone is not enough anymore.

However, MFA also have some drawbacks, such as increased complexity, cost, and user frustration. From experience the user frustration part is the most challenging component to deal with, especially in scenarios where use of technology is limited by by design and necessity. In short know your environment before embarking on MFA and have contingencies in place.

Passkeys are an interesting way to solve most common password issues. You do not need to remember arbitrary combinations of characters and have a different for everything you use. They have an improved user and security experience. It allows companies to build secure products without compromising between UX and security. Passkeys are resistant to the threats of phishing, credential stuffing, and other remote attacks.

In my experience, Passwordless authentication represents a significant leap in data security and user convenience. By eliminating passwords, it mitigates the risks of breaches and streamlines the authentication process. However, addressing compatibility, availability, and recovery challenges is crucial to ensure a seamless transition to this innovative method while maintaining robust security.

In my experience, Decentralized authentication, leveraging blockchain and distributed ledgers, is a game-changer in data security. It eliminates centralized vulnerabilities, granting users control over their data. However, addressing scalability, usability, and interoperability challenges is key to fully realizing the potential of this secure and empowering authentication method.

With the exception of the passwordless and decentralized authentication methods, none of the authentication technologies mentioned in this article are very recent.

Businesses are at a higher risk of compromise if you don't deploy Strong Authentication using Phishing Resistant Authentication solutions like FIDO2 with Hardware Security Keys or Software based Passkeys. Both these solutions are highly effective.

Well, there are quite a few authentication methods to discuss, but I'll highlight three that I particularly like. First, there's hardware-based authentication, using tokens, security keys, and TPMs for strong security. Next, combining risk-based with continuous authentication provides an extra layer of security by looking at the context of authentication requests and monitoring user behavior and device data in real-time to spot anomalies. Lastly, my personal favorite is quantum-safe authentication, which serves as a resilient, future-proof solution in the face of evolving threats posed by quantum computing, mitigating cryptographic vulnerabilities and ensuring long-term security.

All of the types mentioned are great. Some are better then others, however it's best to have multiple types of authentication and at different layers. One that I like the most, unfortunately most companies just haven't adopted yet, is the zero-trust model. I understand it may not be necessary at all companies out there (cost benefit ratio). Having and/or adopting the zero trust model would protect both inside and outside a network. It continually verifies the trustworthiness of users and devices before granting access.

The authentication landscape is multifaceted, and no single technology can address all security needs. A combination of various methods, aligned with specific contexts and risks, is crucial. The integration of AI and machine learning promises more adaptive and intelligent systems but must be balanced with user experience and ethical data use. As these technologies evolve, continuous reassessment of risks, benefits, and ethical implications is imperative to ensure a secure, user-centric digital environment.

All of the above is true. But isn't the most important thing of a good security strategy missing here? The great majority of security leaks is caused by users. Authentification technology covers only one side of the coin: If users are not willing or educated enough to support enterprise security measures, those will stay unsafe - and yes, people will experience the dark side of the moon. Therefore, add the people to your article. Users need training. Ideally, they need orchestrated friendly attacks to fully understand what data security is all about. My two cents: Data security is less about technology, it's about user and awareness!
