Quantised models are the best at running lean, pruning is very efficient at further reducing. Architectural upgrades are going on introducing like apple’s neural cores for edge devices. This makes things lots easier, also recent research S-Lora efficiently sharing base model resources with lora fine tuning versions at scale. While all these goes hand in hand, The main point is, we cannot operate multiple versions of AI models at edge devices. Operating systems should have common shared concepts like shared libs/dlls, in same way shared model spaces to make unified space to load and share AI models across apps.

Following are some ways to reduce model size: 1. Pruning: Gradual Magnitude Pruning (GMP) is the most popular technique where you start with pre-trained full precision network and identify the weights that have magnitude close to zero during fine-tuning. As the fine-tuning progresses you then iteratively remove weights that have magnitude close to zero. 2. Quantization: Pruning followed by quantization further reduces model size while preserving as much model accuracy as possible. Dynamic and accuracy aware quantization are some popular methods. 3.
