What do you do if your colleagues and supervisors are not receptive to your ideas?

While it is useful to seek alternative perspectives from colleagues… and indeed make it more collaborative in the approach, essentially you must first put yourself in the position of the person you wish to communicate the idea to. You have to think why it is going to be of interest to them first, not what you want from then- and then use appropriate language that focuses on how they will need to hear it. This comes before asking colleagues for alternative perspectives. This will use their time. Better to go with a fully developed idea and conception of how to communicate it and then focus their input more effectively

People should know the reason behind, and point of, your new "ideas." Do you see a weakness, strength, or opportunity your business could benefit from addressing? Don't present a good idea in the abstract - ground it within an area like one of these three. Then clarify if your idea is a brainstorm you want to work with others to build out or if it is already something tangible you are presenting as a new tactic, emphasis, action/product. This lets people know if you are getting buy in about their being a problem or area of improvement in general or if you have a plan you want people to already start considering and acting upon.

I would argue that you need to consider alternative learning methods, so while jargon free and concrete examples are important, you might also for example wish to provide visual prompts. This could be static image or a gif, for sure if it is in a presentation, but if it is live they may appreciate it being drawn in the moment, even if the drawing is of a diagram or illustrative, not necessarily a realist representation of a scene. Similarly your language could be further supported for more experimental learners if you’re moving literal or figurative objects in front of you

Persistence is key in addition to not being prideful in thinking that your own persistence and presentation is always the most effective. There is a point where one can identify and acknowledge that while it may be your original idea, that someone else might or several somebody elses might be more effective due to numerous reasons. This could simply that they have switched off from the sheer number of times it has been brought up. It could be they prefer someone else’s style or value it more from someone with different experience. The key is that if it is a great transformational idea for the greater good, is that it doesn’t get lost because your persist in owning it when someone else will have better impact to get it to the next level.
