What do you do if you want to assert yourself during a job interview?

So much of asserting yourself comes from interview preparation and confidence. You know what you know, and by by articulating the knowledge, experience and accomplishments you bring to the table with genuine passion, you will certainly assert yourself. When I am conducting an interview, I look for what makes a person's eyes light up while they are talking - that's where true passion lies. Use confident body language by sitting up straight and maintaining eye contact. Don't just assert yourself with the position itself, but make sure you find a way to show how your values align with the company's values and you will definitely stand out

Knowing your unique blend of skills and how they meet the needs of the job you're applying for is vital. It's not just about rattling off a list; it's about weaving your skills into compelling narratives based on your past experiences. This approach transforms a simple skillset into a vivid showcase of your capabilities. Dive deep into self-reflection to fully grasp and articulate your strengths. Remember, the confidence to assert yourself in an interview springs from a clear understanding of the value you offer.

I think it is key to work on proprioception, the ability of our brain to know the exact position of all the parts of our body at any given moment. It is from there that we can work on the other areas of non-verbal communication.

When you're asserting yourself you definitely sit a certain way and hold yourself a certain way. You're not slouching and shy with your head down, you're sitting with your back straight chin up and you have this powerful Aura around you. Practice sitting in a chair and pretending like you are a character in a movie. This character is super confident, super cool, and charismatic. How are you sitting?

Aunque no sea un concepto que tengamos presente en 24/7, hay un dicho muy común que establece que la mayor parte de la comunicación se da en forma no verbal y de hecho, existe un consenso general acerca de la influencia que ejerce lo que comunicamos a otros independientemente de nuestras palabras. En pocas palabras, el lenguaje verbal es toda la información que recibimos y que emitimos a uno o más interlocutores, que no necesariamente tiene que ver con aquello que decimos. Algunas vez has formado una opinión o emitido un juicio de valor a primera vista? Estas “sentencias” que emitimos sobre una o más personas luego de la famosa primera impresión, se forman casi totalmente debido al lenguaje no verbal.

Think through what you're going to say and practice saying those things in the mirror. It'll help you avoid stumbling as well as creating too many filler words like "umm". Also be comfortable with taking pauses as you speak for the more improvised conversations. You can also add comments that lead up to what you're going to say as you're thinking about it: "That's a really great question, here's what's coming to mind..." "I haven't thought about that for a while, but what immediately jumps out at me is..." And finally, don't overdo it with the fluff. Be real. Be authentically yourself. If you have to explain something to someone outside of your expertise, the best rule of thumb is to explain it to them like they're five.

Listen, speak clearly, and slowly • Listen to the question and Pause before answering. • Think about what you want to say before you start speaking. • Look at the interviewer and speak slowly and also loudly enough so that they can hear. • When you are responding to the common interview questions, frame your answers with your short- and long-term goals in mind. The aim is to gain the attention of the interviewer Example- Explain how the role would help you reach your goals over the next several years. • Recruiters and managers want to understand your strengths, and how you can impact their team. . Use storytelling in a way that paints a vivid picture of your capabilities.

Articulating oneself clearly involves more than correct pronunciation; it necessitates a clear thought process as well. When presenting your ideas, keep two key questions in mind: 1. What occurred? 2. What actions did you take? Incorporate these questions into your narrative by reflecting on your personal experiences. Use the first-person pronoun “I” to emphasize your individual contributions rather than those of a group. This approach highlights your personal skills and involvement.

People love what other people are passionate about. What's something you can talk about all day? What's something that puts a smile on your face? That energy is very powerful and very easily felt. So stay true to yourself because you're most authentic self will attract your most authentic opportunities. If this role is aligned with your passion, don't hold back.

Realizar preguntas interesantes muestra un interés además de diferenciarte de los demás candidatos. Es el momento clave en el que puedes mostrar la motivación, se sugiere realizar preguntas que genere una conversación agradable. Sobre todo, realizar preguntas que confirme que esta interesado por el puesto y que has comprendido todo lo que se ha explicado durante la entrevista. Realizar una investigación previa de la empresa, para conocer su misión, visión y valores es clave para marcar la diferencia y comenzar el partido ganando por 1-0.

As much as the company is looking for their ideal employee, you're looking for your ideal employer. Come prepared with knowing your values, and how they translate into the way you'd like to work in your workplace. Things to consider are the kind of work-life balance you desire, the kind of benefits you desire, the flexibility of the team, the growth capacity in that role, etc

Questions • Though it is suggested or advised to ask questions as you progress in the interview process. It is difficult for many as they have not been prepared for it at their college or they may not hold that confidence and avoid asking questions. • If you are not confident, my suggestion will be don’t attempt. It’s an interview and you should hold on to your confidence, comfort, a light smile on your face with positive body language. You won’t earn any extra points for asking right questions. • But, if you have genuine questions regarding J.D., timings, training schedule, and few expectations as you are joining a new organisation frame the right questions and ask with patience.

Asking insightful, empathetic questions positions you to make a compelling case as to why you're the best fit for a position.

Durante la primera fase de una entrevista se recomienda estar concentrado para responder a las preguntas del entrevistador. Es habitual que después haya un turno de palabra que te pueda dar la oportunidad de poder realizar preguntas o sugerencias. Aquí es donde está la clave para aportar preguntas interesantes que puedan demostrar tu interés, inquietud y ganas de ir a por el puesto. Prepara una batería de preguntas que generen una conversación abierta, transparente y positiva, aléjate de las típicas preguntas del salario, horarios, descansos...etc. Todo a su tiempo, es mejor aportar ideas, etc, sé diferente a los demás, esto marcará la diferencia.

‘Asserting yourself’ can come across as aggressive or demanding. Going back to ‘know yourself’ if you have ever heard from coworkers, friends or bosses that you can be intimidating, watch that side of yourself carefully in all interactions and especially in interview!

Es recomendable además a la hora de afrontar una entrevista: - Hablar adecuadamente y con confianza. - Muestra que conoces la empresa y los detalles del puesto ofertado. - Enfatizar tus logros y resultados obtenidos en tu experiencia profesional. - Demuestra tus ganas y motivación por trabajar en la empresa. - Hablar con respeto y educación y sobre todo desde el corazón.

Es importante recordar las actitudes más importantes y que más se valoran en una persona y que se deben destacar: - Motivación. - Compromiso. - Saber escuchar. - Respeto a los demás. - Adaptación a los cambios. Trabajar y desarrollar estas habilidades nos aportará una ventaja respecto a los demás candidatos. Recuerda que no estás sólo en el proceso de selección, seguramente habrá más candidatos. Sé diferente, no el mejor.
