During this phase, I strongly encourage everyone to perform a Proof of Concept. This provides a real feel for the technology. How well will it integrate in the enterprise. Also, gives a good view into how endusers and consumers of technology will receive this new tech. More importantly it will also give a good insight to people who will be responsible for managing it through its lifecycle.

Beyond a Proof of Concept, a Proof of Value would be something to explore. The latter will focus on the business value and will not only showcase the technical capabilities, but also the integration into the business environment. At this stage, the business users will be involved and will have a better "look and feel" of the product(s) and its business capabilities and will be able to point out areas for improvement.

Before you launch your integration project, you need to plan and test your integration strategy. You need to determine how the new technology will interact with your existing systems, processes, and data, and how you will ensure data quality, integrity, and security. As business (as well as IT) users are key to the successful deployment of technology, a well-rounded team needs to provide feedback on the functionality and areas for improvement. These topics needs to be shared with the supplier, as well as internal teams, and need to be included in the backlog. Business users can prioritize the needs. It is critical that training is not only provided on the current environment, but also on the updates that occur, so that the IT functionality can be fully utilized.

After you launch your integration project, you need to monitor and evaluate its progress and performance. You need to collect and analyze the data and feedback from your users, stakeholders, and systems, and compare them with your predefined metrics and indicators. You should review and report on the results and outcomes of your integration project, and celebrate and acknowledge the achievements and improvements.

While measuring, collecting, analyzing, and reporting are important, the insights and associated actions actions that come out of this bring the true business value. When we take actions, we can look at the before and after state and make an assessment of the impact. When done in an agile manner, adjustments to the integration project can me included as part of the overall project.

Do not forget to consider the entire lifecycle of any technology. Each phase - concept, proof, engineering, production, maintain and sunset bring unique challenges. Be sure to look at tech integration as holistically and not through the lens of one or few phases of the lifecycle.
