TOGAF, LinkedIn and slack are great way to connect and participate in active discussions on various aspects of architecting IT solutions. Great way to solve the issue is look at small scale and scale it up to millions users. in doing so we can discover a lot of problems and solutions at step of evolution. Its constant cycle of introspection ,learning and reinventing ground up.

Based on my experience: Larger SI Organization usually have/should have Architecture CoEs, monthly meetups to discuss about architecture/design trends and their project/domain specific architecture always helps “Tell me your Architecture”. This inculcates culture of reuse of architecture building blocks/libraries/design patterns across project (if not solution IP). Small organizations/ICs on contractual roles should find local chapters and attend meetups [Many tech companies use to have these meetups in major cities]. Subscribe to forums of your domain interests InfoQ, DZone, OpenGroup, AEA, tmforum, smartcitiesworld etc we are living in Digital Era and webinars can be attended from anywhere.

Offline events and Meetup are good places to meet with other solutions architects. You can search for an event in your local community for architecture forums, also you can find offline architecture events published on LinkedIn. Meetup allows you to search for the events and you can attend event in person. Once you attend one or two events it would be easy to get part of the group and get details of future events.

If you are part of a larger organisation, start with connecting architects in various departments in your organisation. Connecting with architects across departments in your organisation can be a powerful way to collaborate and network. Consider volunteering your knowledge and expertise to help your colleagues, and watch as your collective impact grows stronger every day.

I stumbled into the SA role by pure accident (thanks Brad). But the way it unfolded may be applicable to many. If you are in IT Operations, IT Support, Corporate networking or similar fields, ask yourself which of the systems that you administer on a daily basis is the one you like the most/feel most comfortable with. Then get in touch with the Sales Rep of that vendor and ask if they have open roles in the Solutions Architecture team. OEMs LOVE to hire previous customers into that role because they bring a very unique perspective, having used the solution prior. And the training to become an SA for that OEM is mostly already completed. You just don't know it yet. Good luck !
