I needed to obtain a list of emails that are potentially associated with the target company and validate it against them. To do this, I got a list of first names and last names from LinkedIn and formatted it into emails. I then validated these emails against the client's O365 login page using the o365spray tool. This resulted in the client receiving a brute force attack alert even though no passwords were attempted. However, the client knew that this was our activity because they were informed that they should expect it during our agreed upon timeframe.

I think it's important to consider an adversarial mindset and to learn how to think like an attacker to stay creative in testing approaches. You should constantly be challenging your own assumptions and exploring new ways to bypass any security control and vulnerability. Attackers like when new security patches drop as it's likely a majority of systems won't have their security patches installed on patch day. Learning how organizations function, what tech stack are they using? Who are they hiring to fix what problems? Is anyone talking about the organization's technologies on social media? It is also important to consider a defense in depth approach, as well as a least privilege approach, this should fortify your organization's security.
