Depending on your business model, you should commit as much or as little as you can to the flow of the chatbot depending on your human level of support. While chatbots are convenient, they’re only good when they answer the users questions or help nurture the user to the next ideal step in their journey. This closely relates to customer support and should come with a documented service recovery plan should any of these touch points cause a negative reaction from the user. Plain and simple: a chatbot experience should be no different than your human experience.

This is more about the testers than the testing, but the first thing in my experience is early on to ask specifics and try to capture hallucinations or errors. Letting the testers see the capacity for hallucination (and how not just wrong, but convincingly wrong) is a real eye opener. It helps them understand the complexity and subtlety of the task.

As Generative AI becomes increasingly integrated with modern chatbots, regular security testing is no longer sufficient to maintain the integrity of chatbot systems. Adversarial testing also needs to be implemented to ensure that malicious actors with advanced prompt engineering skills do not trick the well-meaning chatbot into giving them access rights or into performing irreversible/destructive actions. One cool use case is GandalfAI, a game where you have to trick the NPC to give you the password to the next level of the game.
