How can you determine the optimal exit timing for an investment?

Exiting an investment is like defusing a bomb - timing is everything. There's no one-size-fits-all answer. Internal: Did you reach your profit target? Is your risk tolerance changing? Company performance: Is growth slowing? Market share shrinking? Do you need cash soon? Is diversification a priority? External: Is the industry booming or busting? Interest rates affecting valuation? Exit opportunities: M&A potential? IPO on the horizon? Is a recession looming? Are there geopolitical risks? By carefully assessing these factors, you can make an informed decision about when to pull the pin and reap the best possible return. Remember, it's not just about maximizing profits, but finding the sweet spot between risk and reward.

The goal of financial planning is NOT wealth. It’s to accomplish all of your goals, in the timing you want, by taking in the least amount of risk necessary. So in order to begin investing we have to have a clearly defined vision for our future. Short term, mid term, and long term. This helps us balance: - Liquidity - Tax savings - Risks Once we know this, we can reverse engineer the right investments and the right savings rates. This takes the guess work out of planning. Remember to ask yourself: What is the purpose of my wealth?

If any of these conditions are met, or if holding the investment affects portfolio diversification, or if you need liquidity, it might be time to consider an exit. There are full exits and partial exits. You can also rebalance your portfolio, or restructure your investment.

We subscribe to modern portfolio theory. This involves asset diversification. Investing in each of the 9 asset classes w/ varying rates. Some actively managed some passively managed. Primarily because some markets are difficult to get an advantage by managing actively while others it is necessary. This allows us to rebalance based on goals not emotions or short term trends. As long as our goals stay constant so does our asset allocation. We sell when high to rebalance and buy when low to rebalance.

Another important factor to consider is the Asset Allocation, once the investment runs up a lot, it’s always better to trim down little bit and diversify in the risk management point of view.
