Some companies push feedback conversations onto their employees to find what they need to improve on or illustrate what they are doing wrong. It never motivates an employee when someone is almost attacking them to make them feel lower and illustrate what they have done badly. I have found that companies that have an environment that fosters curiosity and inclusivity and create a place of relationships that feedback becomes not negative sense but feedback as a gift -teaching. The art of giving feedback and having an employee become more motivated, not demotivated; after hearing how they are doing illustrates the strength of that leaders ability to offer positive communication, sense of caring, ability to offer perspective to help not hurt.

Unless & until you are able to create a safe environment for your team members they will be very hesitant in sharing feedbacks. Respect is always earned & winning trust is driven by day to day actions. Do not ridicule or by pass any feedbacks or thoughts shared with you. Being an active listener will help you greatly. Once the trust is built by actions & they feel confident of confidentiality being intact the safe space is created & genuine feedbacks are shared.

"Feedback is a Gift" - this statement to come true there is a lot of thought that needs to go in from the giver of the feedback, the receiver of the feedback. The feedback should be given with a positive approach, it should show a perspective that this is for one's personal and professional development. The giver should ensure that the receiver sees the perspective that this feedback is beneficial.

Most recently one of my team members has raised concern about not being able to discuss concern because of fear of losing opportunity to others. Having open candid discussion may not be possible every time but if the manager has given some task which means s/he trusts you, In such scenarios ask questions which means two way communication is open, take feedback seriously to work on. Asking questions and seeking help need to be consistent in any relationship between personal or professional. Be honest to open the expected outcome.

The results may not come instantly. Constructive Feedback will also cover the aspect of recognizing the efforts. After all, any one of us would like to hear a few positive and motivating words for the efforts put in, despite the fact that result wasn't achieved. However, still show that perspective that one can channelize the efforts in the right direction and focus to get appropriate/timely results.

Walk the talk. Don't complicate the process, let leaders lead it. HR has to drive the framework, not the process. Management and in particular leadership tier 1 has to live it, accept and take feedback openly. The challenge begins when we create frameworks which are either complicated or else focus on people rather issues/challenges and end up at a catastrophe. PS: Make sure and remember, soft on people, hard on issues.

Embrace technology and continue to learn about new projects and keep informed about them could be helpful. Companies like Nokia they didn’t adopt changes and they didn’t even do anything negative but failed for an only one reason. Be a flexible person as per projects.

Continuous Learning needs a different direction. I think for a leader it has to be "Learn, Unlearn and Relearn". Learning is a process and needs practise to show results.

Set procedures, block time on teams calendar dedicated to share feedback with a clear agenda shared with everyone in advance; Explain why that's important and be able to hear things you don't like :)

Drop the pantomime; and be honest, kind, sympathetic, and constructive. People know when you're being inauthentic, they see through it. Offering feedback alongside proposing solutions, is the way to go. Criticism alone does not help anyone to progress, course-correct, or grow. Try and stick to asking yourself, before feeding back to others: Is what you're about to say 1/ Necessary, 2/ Kind, 3/ Helpful. If not, then your feedback is probably unwarranted.
