Taking the time to establish values and norms for a coalition can be instrumental to its success. Values and norms serve as the underpinnings to navigate the tumultuous terrain of making arduous leadership decisions that impact lives. Oftentimes, conflict and confrontation may result in a coalition losing critical mass. Values and norms are foundational to maintaining traction and completing the tasks at hand. Values and norms should also serve to establish principles for the selection process of new coalition nominees. The use of values of norms will assist in mitigating the isms cronyism, favoritism, nepotism etc.
