In agile projects, overall work is broken down features & then into epics which are pretty high level which are then further broken into more descriptive & complete user stories. The user stories are estimated in terms of story points based on effort & complexity of user story. Sum of story points for all user stories form estimate story points for your total work. As we complete user stories each sprint, these story points are expected to decrease (provided there are no additional user stories added to the sprint, which will be reflected in burnup charts). The remaining work, thus left, is represented in a burndown chart.
