In Modern Data Warehouses gibt es bereits nahtlos Integrierte Lösungen der Plattformbetreiber für Phase 1 der passiven Überwachung. Datenintegrationstools wie Azure Data Factory stellen erste Metriken für die Überwachung bereits zur Verfügung und können über die API in die eigenen Reporting Tools (z.B. Power BI) integriert werden. Reichen diese Metriken nicht mehr aus gibt es z.B. Azure Log Analytics welche weitere Metriken bereitstellt und eine aktive Überwachung ermöglicht. Sollen dann noch Tests z.B. auf Basis von Data Contracts gemacht werden empfehle ich DBT oder Great Expectations als Open Source Tools. Der Output dieser kann direkt wieder in das DWH integriert werden und über das interne Governance Reporting visualisiert werden.

Apart from a specific monitoring tool, I would say capturing detailed logs at various points in the ETL process makes it easier to identify and fix errors.

The monitoring basics which I'd like to suggest is at least make an email (or Slack) alerts which you need to organise in a special folder in you Outlook or somewhere, to not miss on any failing jobs or find out about missing data later than consumers. It's much simpler than to implement a separate big monitoring tool in the beginning. Separate tools are of course nice, but can take too much time/resources to implement, especially if DE team isn't very big. So you can just plan for it, but first make at least the basic alerting. By the way, if you use Airflow, you can sometimes check the included DAG "Task Duration" page there, will see if there is some kind of performance degradation.
