You may also check out ID Quantique, Toshiba, and MagiQ for quantum products. For real life project I personally suggest Womanium.

IEEE is a great platform for these and I also follow other newsletters of pennylane. They are amazing. Subscribe to reputable journals. Examples include Quantum, Quantum Information Processing, IEEE Transactions on Information Theory, Nature Quantum Information, and IACR Cryptology ePrint Archive. These sources offer timely updates on the latest breakthroughs and state-of-the-art results.

Reading journals will help. IEEE information theory, nature quantum information, etc. will help a lot. They provide you with timely and comprehensive updates on the state-of-the-art results and breakthroughs in quantum cryptography and security.

Testing relevant quantum cryptographic protocols with simulators in general is impractical. While algorithms like Shor's can be executed technically speaking the current computational limitations make it unwieldy for anything other than very contrived and simple examples. And moreover a lot of current post quantum cryptographic research is intended to be implemented classically e.g. lattice-based cryptography, and as such simulators are completely pointless for this purpose. The exception everything I've said is in particular QKD with algorithms such as BB84. Since these are completely quantum cryptographic algorithms it actually would benefit users to play around with this in a simulator.
