As a veteran Field Service Engineer/Tech, I can say that for the most part, being the face of the organization and knowing the technology better than 80% of the workforce, we will always feel unappreciated. Recognition I feel is much more simple than people make it. The best recognition program i've experienced is when a corporation give out company apparel, coffee mugs, hats, backpacks, polo shirts. How about if through your hard work, you meet certain goals that earn you a company merchandise item that nobody else has? Not only is that rewarding, that would be a motivator for me if i saw somebody with a cool item that only top performers have.
