I completely agree. Most IoT devices have inherently weak security due to limited space for any type of security, or limited space for strong passwords. Encryption is also a key element, in order to prevent collection of data, and subsequent password attacks. Also, IDS/IPS/SEIM should be implemented. A light bulb can become a huge risk (for example). By default, once the IoT devices are inside your network they can moved laterally to compromise other systems. If not isolated and monitored, simple IoT devices are “trusted” by default. Consider white listing these devices to prevent unauthorized connections. Add to policy violations, train users about risks for home/work. Require firewall router encryption for any location, such as home.

It is very important for any system integration to keep updated information about the specific users and of cause not use generic passwords - nothing can wreck a fully harden, secured, encrypted and segregated solution like a disgruntled "former" employee/user.
