See if there is a distinct message to convey. When you know what that message is, it becomes clear where the most effort is needed in editing. If the message is already there but lacks clarity, you will have to go for structuring and additions, which inevitably takes more time than simply correcting grammar and punctuation. So, allocate your time effectively. When you have established a certain area you need to work on the most, dedicate a larger portion of your time to it. You can use the remaining time to correct minor errors. You can use tools like Grammarly for that.

I always have a few trusted friends on hand to read over things I've written (to a certain extent - if it's longer than a couple of pages, I'll enlist the help of a fellow writer, often with bartering). There are Meetup and Facebook groups dedicated solely to writing and feedback. Use these sources, but be prepared for a volley of feedback. Take it all into consideration, but limit how much you edit. It is, after all, YOUR work.
