How can you make change happen in a program?

People don't like change, its human nature - so you need to take them on the journey and make them feel included. Be proactive - communicate, provide transparency and acknowledge their concerns and respond. Collaborate together to achieve the common goal - recognise their contribution.

To enact change in a program, begin with a clear vision and communicate it effectively to all stakeholders. Ensure understanding and buy-in by highlighting the benefits and addressing concerns. Establish a detailed plan, including timelines and responsibilities, and provide necessary training and resources. Implement the change in phases, monitoring progress closely. Be receptive to feedback and ready to make adjustments. Celebrating small successes along the way boosts morale and reinforces the positive aspects of the change, facilitating smoother adoption and integration into the program. Adapting to change is essential, managing the change effectively is thus even more important to gain alignment and success.

Programs are people. People hate change. Those are the two principles to keep in mind when trying to change a program. The best (only?) way to get programs to change is to get people incentivized to change. How to do that? By clearly explaining to each person how they will benefit from that change. It could mean increase autonomy, or a pay raise, or fewer mind-numbing tasks, or closer proximity to senior leaders. In any case, each person in a critical role will need to grapple with the change and determine (for himself or herself) that the good outweighs the bad.

In my opinion, the modification that a manager propose or put into effect in the program will not be well received or accepted by all stakeholders mainly internal ones. The best advice that can be given to manage change in a smooth way is to be a good listener and to apply active listening in all interactions related to chance. People at work love to talk and express their opinions, concerns and ideas but what they love more is that they get heard. So a wise manager would let people feel that their inputs are being heard and that their opinions are important, relevant and will be taken into consideration. This is magic and this trick will generate results that were never expected.

One thing I've found helpful is Documentation Documentation, Documentation, Documentation- no one likes it, but Change management loves documentation :) Cant stress enough on the documentation part as far as change is managed in any program.
