How can you leverage automation for better product testing?

We have many benefits of test automation and the most important one is earning time, instead of repeating every test case manually in every new release to make a check of regressions, we could launch a test automation scripts locally whenever we want or using a jenkins build, we could planing a specific time to run automatically a build using jenking two times per day for example and after every build we get a test report serenity for example with details which contains tests pass, broken, failed.. and the reason for failure. So using test automation help us to move and handle the new test cases manually at the same time launching the existing tests.

Automating testing process has several advantages : 1. Reduces the time of testing, can run faster and more frequently than manual tests 2. Can be integrated to CI/CD pipelines which will speed up the test execution and maintain the success/failure reports , such test data/reports contribute for the reliability of the software. 3. Automation of test scenarios in turn provide the documentation of scenarios. This will significantly reduce the test miss /escape defect which is more prone to happen in manual testing. 4. Allows us to scale with more tests when the application grows. 5. Ease of maintenance

The most important practice for test automation is to check always your codes because we could have some problems with changing XPATHs, also If we will not update our code we could have pesticide paradox. Beware Of The Pesticide Paradox This principle states that if the same set of tests are executed repeatedly, they will eventually stop revealing new defects.

There are many tools for test automation, among these tools we mention selenium which is the most popular open source tool which based on selection of different elements of graphic user interface GUI through XPATH, CSS... also serenity, we use serenity in order to get html test report with details throw a local build or jenkins build. We could use bdd tool like Cucumber like a first interface, any normal user could understand the test case written through Cucumber, then we will move from Cucumber to Gherkin which contains names of Java functions and variables declaration, through Gherkin we will move to our Java classes, there we will find the method and functions developed by the test automation engineers.

Establish a feedback loop where automated tests are continually updated based on previous test results. This adaptive testing strategy ensures that the testing process evolves and improves over time. In my work, maintaining this feedback loop has been key to keeping the testing process relevant and effective. Use automation for testing product compatibility across different platforms, devices, and browsers. This ensures that the product performs consistently across all user environments. My approach has been to use cloud-based tools for automated cross-platform testing. Incorporate automated tools for security testing. This is crucial to identify vulnerabilities and security breaches early in the development cycle.
