If you're on network or have access to the internet (which is a glorified network), then there is no such thing as a 100% secure OS. Hackers have proved this countless times. But you can reduce the risks by updating your OS and software with the latest patches etc. Running the latest version of Internet security (Firewall and software) with the latest updates. + Having number of routers = Physical firewalls between your PC and the internet modem. Using strong passwords, back up your data regularly including imaging your C drive and store these away from your PC. Monitor processes running in the background and disable ones you don't need and which use system resources. All these things help to reduce the risks + make a more secure OS.

Least Privilege no matter how awkward it is for your users. Define the roles and privileges needed and enforce them. This means if you have network shares that users can create sub-directories on, do not allow the users to create directories that only they have access to. Yes that would be least privilege for that user, but it makes the directory unmanageable by normal administrative tools.

Something I try to do both at work and personally is be "device independent". I try to keep my important files in some kind of network location, and I like to use cloud-based software when possible. Ideally the things I use offer both local and cloud options so that if one fails, I can keep moving. Keep in mind that these options have downsides from a security perspective.

If users interact with your systems, at some point you will be compromised. Consider using VMs that can be rapidly recovered or even better Containers for each application, that can be killed and respawned in the event of compromise.
