Organizing team outings and offsite events are a great way to build community and belongingness with your Venture Capital team. The VC space by nature is very competitive and intense. In order to create a friendlier and more community based environment I suggest getting out of the office and go somewhere that isn’t related to the job. I currently work with a VC firm and this month they are taking all employees out of the country for a week of team building, decompressing, and fun. Each member gets to know one another on a personal level and egos are checked before leaving the country. Since you are not in the office, everyone is seen as equals. These events foster team morale, teamwork, reduce stress, and overall build strong teams.

Working at a VC / PE with a dual pressure ; 1. To get higher returns and at the same ensuring high ethical standards at investee companies. 2. Ensuring we get to invest enough deals to invest It’s a dual pressure. One is risk and other is reward. Constant. The attempt to ensure team building and keeping the team motivated with a community feeling is always on the CEOs mind. Employee volunteering is a great idea which I promote. Attending industry seminars and meet ups again helps with people from our investing community. Trying to get employees to get a work life balance helps. Finally keeping the team engaged towards learning has helped me all along my career. L&D actives comes as a welcome break for my team.
