    Some tips for using active listening to resolve conflicts in community organizing: 1. Paraphrase what you hear. Repeat back the key points you've heard from the other person to show you're listening and understanding their perspective. For example, "So what I'm hearing is that you're concerned about the impact of the new development on affordable housing in the neighborhood. 2. Ask clarifying questions. Seek to fully understand the other person's concerns and needs by asking open-ended questions The key is to create an environment where all parties feel heard, understood and willing to work collaboratively towards a solution. Active listening is a powerful tool for de-escalating tensions and moving community conflicts towards resolution.

    The simple question you should ask yourself if you find yourself in that situation of resolving conflict through empathy is asking yourself “ what you’d have done if you were the one faced with that conflict”. And most importantly how you’d have reacted to it. Weigh the pros and cons and I believe that alone will bring your mind especially to how the parties involved in the conflict actually feel. This normally works most efficiently in situations or conflicts that arise as a result of marginalization and minority communities
