Understanding who has what level of expertise is vital. If you know the individuals entering the room, understand their history and education. If someone has multiple publications/years in the industry, it's wise to defer to them for questions in their specialty.

Goals, KPI's, benchmarks, etc. etc. are the lifeblood of a project. If you have a concept then it needs to be broken down into goals similar to stepping stones. Break things down into chunks, break those down even further into steps, and you'll find the team can navigate the project with the greatest of ease. Conceptual planning isn't the best for everyone, much to C-suit's chagrin, but it's imperative for the team to have that plan.

Having closed doors, white noise machines next to offices to prevent others from listening in, and ensuring that you're in meetings from dawn till dusk is a surefire way to get the team to become champions of thumb twiddling. If you open up your time (within reason) and show the team how you'd like things done, you'll find a hardworking group with a goal in front of them.

Feedback has been a vital part of nearly every project I've worked on. Nothing is perfect but striving as close as you can to it will ensure that you have a great chance at achieving the next best thing. I've had excellent bosses that showed where they'd like me to be at, where I'm currently at, and how far away I am from each step. I've also had miserable bosses that created concepts and didn't train, then informed the team we're behind schedule. It's important to balance out expectations with benchmarks.

It's a difficult position at times. E-learning experts have great knowledge in how to balance tasks and how to manage time. If they can guide a team in managing their delineated jobs then you'll save on office expenses and have a global team of experts in e-learning.
