Skills about navigating intellectual property (IP) are not typically emphasized in traditional research training. Researchers often focus on scientific discovery but lack formal preparation in understanding how to protect and commercialize their innovations. Even the most groundbreaking discoveries face challenges in securing external funding (investments) without proper IP protection. This gap can delay or prevent promising technologies from reaching the market.
