In my experience, languages and libraries keep on changing only what remains constant are the basics -Algorithm,data structure . And problem solving based on these concepts. Once you master the basics rest all the languages are pretty much same.

To be a successful developer, learn about the problem, and then choose the right tool. Prototyping? RoR, small app, microservices? Nodejs, need to use all the cores and scale an app? Elixir.

I choose to learn PHP, despite all of it's flaws, because at the time it was the most popular Back-end language and it was simple to use.
