Here’s what else to consider

If you are a telecommunications engineer, you know how important it is to optimize your radio access network (RAN) performance and efficiency. RAN is the part of the network that connects users' devices to the core network, and it can consume a significant amount of energy and resources. Reducing network costs is not only beneficial for your budget, but also for your environmental impact and customer satisfaction. In this article, we will share some of the most effective RAN best practices for reducing network costs, based on industry standards and expert recommendations.

1 Use cloud-native RAN

One of the ways to reduce network costs is to adopt a cloud-native RAN architecture, which leverages the advantages of cloud computing, such as scalability, flexibility, automation, and resilience. Cloud-native RAN can help you reduce capital and operational expenditures, as well as simplify network management and deployment. Cloud-native RAN also enables you to use open and interoperable interfaces and components, which can reduce vendor lock-in and increase innovation.

Reduce cost by using Cloud RAN Architecture: -It will enable split architecture i.e. separate the upper and lower part of radio protocol by using servers with cloud and virtualization techniques, same 5G software stack on servers. so same type of HW for core, RAN. - Easy to manage whole network -Reduce operations and maintenance cost -VMs will replace proprietary HW so cost will reduce. - Flexible deployment, minimum efforts, easy scalability. - More innovation options in RAN side network.

2 Implement RAN slicing

Another best practice for reducing network costs is to implement RAN slicing, which is the ability to create and manage multiple logical networks on the same physical infrastructure, each with different service levels and characteristics. RAN slicing can help you optimize network utilization and performance, as well as offer customized and differentiated services to different customers and applications. RAN slicing can also help you reduce network complexity and overhead, as well as increase network security and reliability.

3 Apply RAN optimization

A third best practice for reducing network costs is to apply RAN optimization, which is the process of improving the quality and efficiency of the network by using various techniques, such as load balancing, interference management, traffic shaping, and power control. RAN optimization can help you enhance network capacity and coverage, as well as reduce network congestion and latency. RAN optimization can also help you save energy and resources, as well as improve customer experience and satisfaction.

4 Utilize RAN analytics

A fourth best practice for reducing network costs is to utilize RAN analytics, which is the use of data and artificial intelligence to monitor, analyze, and improve the network performance and behavior. RAN analytics can help you gain insights into network status, trends, and issues, as well as identify and solve problems before they affect customers. RAN analytics can also help you automate network operations and maintenance, as well as optimize network planning and design.

5 Adopt RAN sharing

A fifth best practice for reducing network costs is to adopt RAN sharing, which is the collaboration between operators to share network infrastructure and resources, such as spectrum, sites, equipment, and backhaul. RAN sharing can help you reduce network deployment and operation costs, as well as increase network coverage and quality. RAN sharing can also help you achieve economies of scale and scope, as well as foster competition and innovation.

6 Learn from RAN resources

A sixth best practice for reducing network costs is to learn from RAN resources, which are the sources of information and guidance that can help you understand and implement the best practices mentioned above. RAN resources can include industry associations, standards bodies, research institutes, online courses, blogs, podcasts, and webinars. RAN resources can help you stay updated and informed about the latest developments and trends in RAN, as well as network with other professionals and experts in the field.

Ways of RAN best practices to reduce network costs -Choose wisely RAN Compute HWs with through R&D, they should have high performance, good quality, high capacity support, high security and low energy consumption and future ready(HW wise or SW wise) like able to support early releases of 5G-advanced/6G (Of course, need to consider OPEX and CAPEX as per area/site) . -Go for latest dual or triple band supported radios, three or two bands in one radio so less equipment on site subsequently lower site rent, it will reduce power consumption. -Choose cloud-native RAN architecture, which leverages the advantages of cloud computing, such as scalability, flexibility, automation, and resilience
