What do you do if artificial intelligence is transforming the future of recruiting?

Just be as authentic as a human could be, keep learning new things, work on your mental capabilities. We have not seen "artificial intelligence" so far, all we've seen is pre-trained data on human work. Hence, you can still beat it 😁

In order to embrace change, we first need to educate ourselves within AI. One of the biggest concerns around change is the fear of the unknown. So let's take that away! Once we understand the advantages that AI, specifically Generative AI, can have on improving our performance as recruiters—automation of tasks, data-driven insights, predictions, generated content, etc.—our perceptions will change. I view the incorporation of AI in recruitment more as a partnership rather than replacement.

Talent Acquisition is on the brink of a transformative journey with the integration of Artificial Intelligence. Like every other function, TA will be significantly impacted by AI, revolutionizing traditional recruitment methods. Embracing this change is paramount, as AI has the potential to revolutionize how we source, screen, and engage with candidates. By harnessing the power of AI-driven tools and algorithms, TA professionals can streamline processes, enhance candidate experiences, and make more data-driven decisions. Embracing AI and making it work for us is essential to staying competitive in today's rapidly evolving talent landscape!

As they say, Change is the only constant. Understand first that, AI is not a magic bullet. It's important to remember that AI tools are only as good as the data they are fetching on or trained for. Biases can creep into AI algorithms if data is not carefully curated. To ensure fairness and effectiveness, human oversight is still decisive. If the changes are adopted positively it always helps to be accommodative with it.

Familiarize yourself with AI-powered recruitment platforms, applicant tracking systems (ATS), and other AI-driven solutions available in the market. AI is speeding up a bunch of granular menial tasks. That grunt work that you really would love to avoid can be done quicker with some better, faster tools. Most ATS is starting to employ better automation. You can also start to build it into your workflows. Upgrade, get software demos set up and attend seminars or webinars to get out in front of the changes.

There are several amazing and emerging AI tools to help you become more efficient in your recruitment process. I utilize voice recognition tools to assist me in dictating and transcribing notes from our client intakes. We employ AI to extract key information from position discovery conversations and convert it into a position summary, fostering a deeper understanding and alignment of the role both within our team and with the client. Additionally, we leverage these tools to generate external and internal position descriptions, subsequently sharing these descriptions with potential candidates to foster a deeper connection to the role and an understanding of the expectations. These tools are enhancing the efficiency of our process.

I find upgrading my skills to stay up to date with evolving technologies, specifically AI to be fun! Learning and hearing about new tools that can help make work days go by faster and be more efficient is always something that I will be open to. Recently, instead of ChatGPT, I have been using a similar software called Claude and have been loving it.

We made a deal with a local university and give all our employees acces to a series of certified AI trainings. The trainings themselves will enable our people to work more efficiently and be more productive.The certification is an extra. Something our 5.500 colleagues can put on their resume. We invested in a professional broadcasting studio to be able to give high quality lectures through YouTube Live and our own channels.

Regardless of the rise of AI, the commodity in recruitment is people and that won't change. Every person is so unique that no LLM and RAG will be able to have a tailored/personalised approach that can outperform a person. Leveraging our empathy, unique previous experiences, personal investment in the outcome, leadership qualities, communication, and in-person interaction. These are all things AI cannot replace or compete with. As a result, I feel, it is important to identify what AI offers (automation, speed to acquire knowledge, data-driven decisions, content generation, predictions, etc.), but also identify what it doesn't do and make sure you invest time to build in those areas to offer something that isn't replaceable adding REAL value.

Time and time again we are told how our staff has made a difference in the recruiting process. The tools are getting better but having a human touch and being sensitive to the nuances in communication separate automated processes from more customized interactions.

It's important to remember that while the recent developments in AI are impressive, it's still just one of the tools at a recruiter's hand. And just like candidates never appreciated mass non-personalized inMails, most of the times they won't appreciate talking to a chatbot and instead expect human contact. AI is not going to replace good TA professionals in the foreseeable future, and instead is going to make the best ones much more productive and effective.

By using AI to automate repetitive tasks and gather insights, recruiters can devote more time to personalized interactions with candidates, fostering meaningful relationships and ensuring a human-centric approach to talent acquisition.

One thing I have found helpful in adapting to the rise of AI is, using it as a channel to network with people. Speaking with experts in this field has really helped me understand what is happening and what things we need to consider as recruiters. As a result, I have set up a UK-focused Generative AI community for knowledge sharing and networking, which has added so much value and ironically highlights the importance of people! This makes welcoming AI that much easier. I would recommend finding similar groups/initiatives to learn with like-minded people.
