I agree that goals are necessary - you will have no way of knowing what 'done' looks like if you don't set goals. However, that isn't the first step. When you look at your project, determine what your Critical to Success Factors (CSF) are, and then find a way to measure those factors. CSF: improve customer satisfaction --> Goal: have a 10 (or 20, or 33) increase in annual Net Promoter Score metric for Customer Service. Without the Critical to Success Factors, you could be setting goals and measuring items (and spending the resources to do so) that do not really move you in the right direction.

In today's world collecting data and analyzing it is a must do, without data it is same as driving vehicle with opaque glasses hence losing the way forward or not able to see or forecast anything, Data is a new wealth hence keeping it safe and analyzing it helps achieve your goals, Data analysis is tool with which business rectifies it's mistakes and take appropriate decision to maximize benefits or profitability, with the help this aspect of business the organization can forecast numbers and outcome well in advance.

The main disconnect I've noticed with trying to make teams more data driven is that the internal systems of the organization do not support it. This is often the most overlooked skill in a data analysts tool belt, communication. I would like to add an another point is when we are using charts, graphs, etc. It’s important to know what graphs or charts are relevant to that data’s outcome . Incorrect use of that could entirely change the meaning of the data. In my experience, I have seen to keep the theme same if a bar graph is used then we tend to keep all results as bar graphs. Keeping the theme same means if you are presenting the data with graphs, keep most of results in ppt as graphs, charts, dashboards, etc instead of using words on some slides. Few small points like these keep the viewers engaged and showcase the consistency as person or of a organisation.

Visualization is a powerful skill, which combined with story telling would yeald you greater results. I am always fascinated by the decks of the senior professionals and how they give attention to every single details of the presentation. Great visualisation can turn good obseravtions to a great presentation!
