Our universe obeys very strict rules! In particular, we also apply the basics of military culture: “Function comes before rank”. In other words, we trust every member of our team. No discussion is normally possible, as each of us is a recognized expert in his or her field! So normally no conflict !

Dealing with team conflict during high-stakes activities like aircraft testing can be particularly challenging. Here are some strategies to manage and resolve conflicts effectively: 1. Open Communication Encourage team members to express their concerns and viewpoints openly. Make sure everyone feels heard and valued. This can prevent misunderstandings and foster a collaborative environment. 2. Focus on Common Goals Remind the team of the ultimate objective: ensuring the aircraft's safety and performance. By focusing on shared goals, personal conflicts can be minimized as everyone works towards the same outcome. 3. Clear Roles and Responsibilities Ensure that each team member understands their specific roles and responsibilities.

The key to understanding and managing team conflicts to being cognizant that the team will have multiple perspectives on any issue/challenge they face and as such wont always agree. The art is to allow them to air these perspectives in a safe space, listen to each other and then decide together on the best way froward. That is of course if you have the luxury of time, which in a test environment is not something that is normally available. In the time pressured situations it becomes about clarity: make sure the team are clear on what you are trying to do and why and also why certain decisions are made - you must however take the time for a post test review where those multi perspectives can be aired and valued.

Inter team conflicts are common and should be addressed. Intra team conflicts are dangerous however. Intra team conflicts require the management to redesign the team as the whole team should be on similar agenda and communicate efficiently to avoid conflicts. Inter team conflicts in Engineering should not develop if system engineers are good there should be least conflicts.
