How do you show continuous learning on your resume?

The first step to success to to know what works best for you as an individual. Understand your career progression as well as your unique experiences. Choose an appropriate resume format (chronological, functional, or hybrid) that emphasizes your educational background, skills, and achievements effectively.

In my experience, Chronological resumes are generally preferred, as they provide a clear work history and help assess any career gaps. Functional resumes, on the other hand, are often discouraged because they don't offer a clear understanding of the candidate's career progression. The Hybrid resume, which combines both approaches, can be a safer choice when you want to emphasize your transferable skills and diverse experiences.

I often recommend utilising more hybrid structures for CV/resume as this allows you to truly demonstrate your skills & expertise quickly and easily to a recruiter and how these would translate into a new role. Recruiters want to know why you and how you are different from other candidates. By making it as easy as possible to do this may help to make you stand out in a positive way. Remember as you go through your career that professional development is more important than what you did at school and therefore you may need to remove some of these from your CV/resume to help with space. You can always reference this by saying something like "early education details can be provided at interview".

Update your education section to show continuous learning. Add your degrees and diplomas. Add certifications and courses you have taken.

While diverse educational sources and formats are valuable for continuous learning, ensure that you select courses relevant to your desired role or career path. If you've gained knowledge from a podcast, consider integrating it with additional courses that provide practical opportunities to apply those skills in a real-world context.

I advise you create a dedicated skills section for both technical and soft skills. In your work experience descriptions, emphasize quantifiable achievements that show how your continuous learning contributed to success. Remember the STAR technique in doing this - Situation Task Action Results

Always use the RATS format when writing your accomplishment statements on your resume. R--> Result A--> Action T --> Task S --> Scope (of action)

If you are in the creatives, you should have a portfolio. A portfolio speaks so much about your abilities. For those not in the creative industry, you an still include links to your online portfolio, LinkedIn profile, professional website, or blog that showcases your work, expertise, and continuous learning activities. Mention relevant online certifications and connect social media accounts if they align with your profession.

You can highlight volunteer work experiences as well. Showcase the skills you worked with and the successes you recorded when you volunteered.
