Additionally, limiting data access and retention, along with proper anonymization and deletion practices, are vital steps to safeguard sensitive information and prevent potential misuse or discrimination. Overall, data minimization should be a fundamental principle in AI development to ensure responsible and ethical use of data.

Never collect more data than you need, regardless of how tempting it might be to “future proof” your use cases down the road. One approach is to define the use cases well and adopt strong data strategies to manage the ingestion of data.

Whilst AI future depends of data not all data is necessary and need not be collected at first place. Like name, health (unless consensus) etc.. Anonymisation of data is required at the source. This needs the 1. Empowering user to decide the types data collected and consent. Also direct deletions right. 2. Ethical regulations from product owners, collect only necessary data. Which must be broader scope and enough to arrive at logical decisions which AI can improve with speculative algorithms than precise. 3. Governance and strict audit policies. (3rd party). Breach penalties and strict norms.

This is a tough one. The judgement call made on what data is accurate is also ironically (in some cases) a subjective one. Inherent biases is pervasive! Pseudonymization replaces personal identifiers with pseudonyms, while anonymization seeks to make re-identification impossible. Differential Privacy. This is a mathematical technique that ensures that the results of queries on datasets do not reveal information about any individual data point. It adds controlled noise to the data or results to protect individual privacy. Define and implement policies that specify how long data will be retained and ensure that data is deleted after it's no longer needed.

How about getting the benefits of user data without even having to collect it? Let that sink in. Federated Learning (FL) enables the creation of Machine Learning models at the edge, that is, data does not leave user's device. The idea is to send a copy of the model to the place where data resides and perform training there. Then, only the model weights (the learning) leaves the device. This is not a silver bullet though. Techniques such as Differential Privacy and Homeomorphic Encryption must work together with FL in order to provide stronger guarantees that reverse engineering won't be possible in any of the workloads. There are great use cases for FL, maybe yours is one of them.
