I'm not really a fan of hierarchy in VC. Many times Analysts or Associates do much more work than senior colleagues and source as interesting deals as their partners. Yes, it's partially about 'who you know' but also about 'who knows you' so be passionate, honest, respectful and helpful and founders will see you!

Don't wait for direction from your Partner(s). Contact the company and get requisite info directly from them before introducing it. The online information is usually out if date and sometimes inaccurate. Entrepreneurs will take your call - talk to them and populate DD items you know are needed for even an initial screen - financials, investment rounds, cap tables, IP, competition, and bios of the exec team for instance.
