The successful candidates will strengthen the newly createdUnknown ObjectData Science and Machine Learning GroupUnknown Objectpart of the Department of Mathematics and Statistics. The research done by this group follows a pioneering and ingenious route using algorithms for data analysis based on new principles coming from pure mathematics.
Congratulations to Clemonell Bilayi-Biakana for the best oral presentation at the Probability Section Student Competition during the 2017 Statistical Society of Canada Annual General Meeting in Winnipeg. He presented a paper entitled "Tail Empirical Processes for Stochastic Volatility Models". Clemonell is co-supervised by Gail Ivanoff and Rafal Kulik.
Congratulations to Jason Bramburger, PhD student in Applied Mathematics (supervisors: Benoit Dionne and Victor Leblanc) who has received a prestigious NSERC Postdoctoral Scholarship. After graduation, he will take his scholarship to Brown University in Providence, Rhode Island to work with Dr. Bjorn Sandstede.
Professor of Number Theory, Damien Roy, was recently named Faculty of Science Researcher of the Year. Professor Roy is a leading number theorist of significant stature in the Canadian Mathematical community. He has made substantial, original and lasting contributions, including progress on conjectures that have stood for decades. His research has taken on an incredible momentum, with stunning breakthroughs on a variety of long-standing problems in just the past few years. Congratulations!
