Public computers

Public computers are available in most libraries. Students, professors and employees, you will be prompted to enter your login information.

  • Username: The part before the @ in your uOttawa.ca email address.
  • Password: To create or reset your password, use the Password Management Tool. You can also call the Service Desk at 613-562-5800 ext. 6555.

All of our computer workstations come with Internet access and Microsoft Office software. Most have USB ports and CD-reader drives. The GSG Centre and the Media Centre computers have some special applications as well:

Adaptive technology workstations and study rooms are available at the Morisset Library, Brian Dickson Law Library and Health Sciences Library.

Visitors can use the computers through our guest account service. To be issued a guest account, bring identification with your name, address and signature to the circulation desk and complete the form.

Borrowing iPads and laptops

We have iPads available for loan at the Morisset Library, Brian Dickson Law Library and Health Sciences Library. The loan period is 3 days (72 hours) with no renewals.

The Library has laptops (Dell Latitude E5430 / Windows 7) available for loan in selected locations. These are available to uOttawa faculty, staff and students with a valid library account in good standing. The loan period is 1 day (24 hours). Laptops may be renewed depending on availability.

All borrowers of Library computer equipment must abide by the IT Resources Acceptable Use policy and adhere to the Library's terms of use:

Printing, scanning and photocopying

Printers and photocopiers are available at each library. To pay, add money to your student card or buy and add money to a visitor card using the machine located nearby.

Scanning to e-mail or USB is free of charge on photocopy machines at each library.

A self-serve book scanner is available at the Morisset Library, 1st floor photocopier room.

Specialized scanners are available at the GSG Centre (for maps) and the Media Centre (for images, microforms and slides).

Wireless access

Wireless access is available throughout every library for current students, faculty, staff and alumni using a laptop or handheld device.

To set up a wireless connection, visit the IT Support website.

If you have any questions, submit a Service Desk request.

Security

Under no circumstances leave computers or any personal items unattended in the library. You should always follow these theft prevention tips. The Library is not responsible for lost or stolen laptops or other items.
