As explained by SSHRC, the "Insight Award recognizes outstanding achievement by an individual or team whose project has made a significant contribution to knowledge and understanding about people, societies and the world."

Congratulations to Dr. Dijkstra on being named a member of the College of New Scholars, Artists and Scientists of the Royal Society of Canada.

Jitse Dijkstra is Professor of Classics at the University of Ottawa and an internationally recognized specialist of religious transformation in Late Antiquity, in particular in its Egyptian context. He is the author of numerous studies on the topic, including two monographs, and currently runs a five-year project funded by SSHRC on religious violence in Late Antique Egypt, which aims to publish the first ever synthetic study on the subject.
