Hello everyone,
My name is Rizki and I am your VP Finance. It has been exciting to return to this position for a second year. I’m writing to explain a few of the projects that I have been working on lately.
I started off my year with Leader Action, which is a leadership conference that builds closer ties between Federated Bodies and the SFUO. I also attended the National General Meeting of the Canadian Federation of Students, where the SFUO voted on by-laws, campaigns, and governance decisions.
The bulk of my work can placed in four different categories: human resources, budgeting, managing the 4 student businesses, and managing our health plan. As the head of human resources, I oversee the hiring of all new employees of the Federation. In terms of finances, I am preparing the new SFUO budget, which will be presented to the Board of Administration in August. Additionally, I am responsible for overseeing the operations of 1848, the Agora, Pivik, and Café Alt. Last but not least, I am currently negotiating better coverage for mental health services with our insurance provider.
Over the past month and a half, I have spent a lot of time interacting with the University of Ottawa administration. Both the VP Finance and the President sit on the UCMB, which is the University Centre Management Board. As a member of the UCMB, I regularly meet with members of the University administration to discuss the governance of the UCU. We are also bargaining for an SFUO Kitchen space. We recently visited Algonquin College and examined how the SFUO can learn from the beautiful student spaces at their campus and their businesses.
That sums up my last 8 weeks!
Until next time,
Rizki Rachiq
