Research centres and institutes
Our research institutes function outside existing academic units and may be discipline-based or interdisciplinary in nature. In either case, they must encompass activities that can be more effectively accomplished outside a traditional graduate program. The two principal objectives of research institutes are to pursue excellence in research and maintain first-class teaching programs at the graduate and/or undergraduate level.
Max Planck-uOttawa Centre for Extreme and Quantum Photonics
The centre provides a platform for close collaboration and scientific exchange between uOttawa and the Max Planck Society. Since 2012 uOttawa and the Max Planck Institute for the Science of light have been cultivating strong research collaboration with each other through student and staff exchanges, international workshops and collaborative research projects. The success of this collaboration has convinced the Max Planck Society of the value in establishing a Max Planck Center to expand on this solid foundation.
