On November 15, 2016 the Faculty of Engineering celebrated its most accomplished graduate students at the 20th Annual Ceremony of Excellence.
The breakfast event took place in Tabaret Hall where the Masters of Ceremony Dr. Michel Labrosse (Interim Vice-Dean of Graduate Studies) and Stéphane Drouin (Academic Administrator of Graduate Studies) opened the ceremony.

Michel Labrosse, stated, “The graduate students who have been invited today have been recognized by prestigious institutions for their contributions. We’re here to say that we’re proud of them, and want to thank them for carrying on with a tradition of excellence at the Faculty of Engineering, be it at local, provincial, national or international levels.”
Dr. Ioan Nistor, Interim Dean of the Faculty welcomed students to the event. Dr. Nistor also thanked the contributors, whose generosity helped fund the awards, bursaries, and scholarships.
“The winners whom we honor today are indeed la crème de la crème of our graduate students – their sustained effort and results lay out the bricks of the foundation of our Faculty’s reputation. We are truly grateful that they chose our school to bring their ideas to fruition!” said Dr. Nistor.
Next, Dr. Claude Laguë (Former Dean) spoke to the students about the importance of having an entrepreneurial spirit
The opening speeches were followed by a presentation by alumnus David George, Co-CEO of Digiflare Inc. David explained how both his education (Computer Science at the University of Ottawa) and software developer experience led him into strategic consulting and solution architecture with content partners. His passion lies in building relationships and using the latest technology from partners like Amazon, Google, and Microsoft to facilitate R&D, and to evangelize early adoption within customer and partner communities.
