It is with great pride that we announce that Advanced Science News featured a recent article publication by Assistant Professor Benoît Lessard’s research group.

Advanced Science News highlights new and exciting developments from across a broad spectrum of scientific disciplines, found in all of the Wiley journal collections.

Benoît Lessard and his research group have studied the controlled polymerization of N-(Isobutoxymethyl) acrylamide, a water-insoluble, commercially available monomer, resulting in well-defined homopolymers and block copolymers. They established a correlation between the reaction rate and the polymerization temperature as well as characterized some previously unknown, fundamental mechanical properties of these materials, such as the glass transition temperature. Finally, the authors characterized an unexpected degradation mechanisms for these novel polymers, leading to new questions about this commercially relevant family of materials.

Benoît Lessard is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Chemical and Biological Engineering of the University of Ottawa and holds a Tier 2 Canada Research Chair in Advanced Polymer Materials and Organic Electronics.
