How do I know if my class is part of the Incentive Program?

You can find out by checking your course syllabus. Usually the professor will include the program information and instructions for students to follow. If you can’t find this information, you may want to ask the instructor if they are or will be participating in the program.

How do I know which workshops I need to attend and what credit I will receive?

Since each professor tailors the incentive program to fit their class, the way that marks are allocated and the number of workshops students should attend varies from class to class. You may want to listen carefully to announcements in class, check for this information on your course syllabus, or email your professor directly and ask. In addition, the instructor may assign specific workshop topics that need to be completed in order to receive the credit.

Where can I see the full workshop schedule?

To see the complete workshop schedule please login to Carleton Central and click on the Centre For Student Academic Support link to access mySuccess. From there, simply click on the Workshop/Event link, then on the link titled CSAS Workshops. You can also find the daily workshops schedule at the Centre for Student Academic Success on the 4th floor of the Library.

What are workshop 'clusters'?

CSAS has created themed workshop ‘clusters’. These clusters organize workshop topics into themes, as a way for students and professor to identify which sets of workshops would promote different learning and studying skill development. Each cluster is designed to improve specific skill sets and enhance academic performance.

Do I have to bring anything with me to the workshops?

We ask that you please bring your student ID card with you to each workshop you attend. In addition, it would be advantageous to bring a smart devices (cellphone, laptop or tablet), and paper to take notes in the workshop. You may hear some helpful tips and learn something new that you would probably want to write down.

How do I register for and access online workshops?

Please see our page for Online Workshops to get more information about how to access these workshops.

How can I keep track of the workshops I attend?

Your personal attendance record is tracked in mySuccess. you can follow the steps below to view your CSAS Skill Development Workshop attendance record at any time:

  1. Log onto the mySuccess portal via Carleton Central
  2. From the dashboard page, click the tab titled “Event Registration”
  3. Verify that the registration status next to each CSAS Skill Development Workshop says “Attended”

Do I have to re-take workshops that I've previously taken?

The workshops that you may be required to take for the incentive program could depend on the workshops that the professor has specified. If you’ve already taken a workshop in a previous term and are required to take the same workshop in the current term, then you will have to re-take it. In order to receive credit for a current class, the workshops have to be completed in the current term. However, the workshops have been updated for the new academic year and include different material that may serve as a refresher or will provide you with new, helpful tips and strategies to improve your academic skills.

How many workshops do I have to attend if I have more than one class that is part of the Incentive Program?

The number of workshops you will have to complete for the term will depend on the number of classes you are taking that are registered in the Incentive Program and the topics that each professor requires you to attend. There may be an instance where two or more classes require a few of the same workshop topics to be completed. In these cases you will only have to attend that workshop topic once in the term to fulfill the requirement for those classes.

Will the same workshops I attend for a class count toward the Skills for Academic Success Certificate?

Any five workshops that you complete throughout the academic year will count toward the Skills for Academic Success Certificate.
