The IEEE grade of Fellow is conferred by the IEEE Board of Directors upon a person with an outstanding record of accomplishments in any of the IEEE fields of interest.

Professor Shervin Shirmohammadi is being recognized for contributions to multimedia systems and network measurements. For over 20 years, his research in this field has led to distinct outcomes that have significantly impacted both the scientific body of knowledge and the practical arena.

The IEEE has recognized Professor Shirmohammadi for his numerous and exceptional contributions, particularly his contributions to real-time, high-fidelity telepresence and visual telecollaboration systems, disseminated in over 300 peer-reviewed publications—including over 70 in top-world journals— and 22 patents and technology transfers to the private sector, developed with over $13 million in research funding from industry and the government. He has also provided valuable services as an IEEE Distinguished Lecturer, Editor-in-Chief or Associate Editor of top IEEE transactions, and general or technical chair of top IEEE conferences.

Shervin Shirmohammadi is Professor at the School of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science of the University of Ottawa, conducting research in Multimedia Systems and Networks, specifically in video systems and networks, gaming systems and networks, and their applications in tele-healthcare. The results of his research have led to over 80 researchers trained at the postdoctoral, PhD, Master’s, and research engineer levels, and a number of awards and prizes—such as the University of Ottawa Gold Medal.
