Biography

Dr. Zhenguo Lu is a Senior Research Officer and the Project Leader under Advanced Photonics Components (APC) Program, Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) of National Research Council (NRC), Ottawa, Canada.

He also services as an Adjunct Professor in Department of Electrical & Computer Engineering of both University of Ottawa and Concordia University in Canada since 2006.

After obtaining his Ph.D. degree in 1992 from Sun Yat-Sen University, also known as Zhongshan University in Guangzhou of China, he received the ICPT Research Fellowship and worked at the International Centre for Theoretical Physics in Triest, Italy. During 1993-1995, he was the recipient of the Alexander von Humboldt (AvH) Research Fellowship, which he spent at the Institute of Semiconductor Electronics, RWTH Aachen, Germany.  Then he worked at The Centre for Terahertz Research of Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI), NY, USA for two years. Dr. Lu came to NRC in October of 1997 as a Research Officer in Photonics Systems Group of INMS. From April 2000 to April 2002, Dr. Lu worked as the Director of Research and Product Development of BTI Systems Inc. in Ottawa, Canada. In April of 2002, he has re-joined NRC as a Senior Research Officer in INMS, then in IMS and ICT until today.

Dr. Lu has gained over 28 years of experience with lasers, optical amplifiers, nonlinear optics, quantum-well (QW) & quantum-dot (QD) semiconductor devices, WDM networking systems and other photonic components through several large-scale research and development projects in academic institutions and industrial companies.

He has over 200 publications in the refereed journals and conference papers, and 6 US patents.
