Office of the President
I am tremendously proud to be joining the University of Ottawa as its 30th president and vice-chancellor. My heartfelt thanks goes out to all who have so warmly welcomed me these past few months during my transition into office.
The University of Ottawa is nationally and internationally recognized for its exceptional research, growing international reputation, steadfast commitment to academic excellence and dedication to celebrating, strengthening and encouraging bilingualism – all of which creates an enriching and unique learning environment for students. Moreover, the University’s remarkable ability to encourage people and foster innovative ideas leads to discoveries and creativity that have a ripple effect, both in Canada and around the globe.
I plan to spend the coming months listening to, and learning from, faculty, staff, students, alumni and friends. In particular, I look forward to meeting our students at the start of the fall term. As a lifelong educator and scholar, I am deeply grateful for the opportunity to make a difference in the lives of the more than 43,000 students who are currently pursuing their education at uOttawa.
As I discover more about the University and its community, I want to focus our efforts on ensuring that our students continue to experience an outstanding learning environment that encourages excellence and creativity. We will work together to fulfill our noble mission as we pursue understanding and discovery that will improve lives and change the world.
I am excited by the prospect of working with members of the University community to harness the wonderful momentum on campus so that we may build upon the accomplishments of my predecessors while pursuing new avenues of excellence.
Sincerely,
Jacques Frémont
President and Vice-Chancellor
