The Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council (SSHRC) has announced the top three finalists for its 2016 Impact Awards, and Common Law’s Professor Stewart Elgie has been selected as a finalist in the Connection Award category.

uOttawa Law Professors among researchers involved in $2.5 million SSHRC Partnership Grant project to strengthen justice for victims of international crimes
A partnership of leading Canadian academics and non-governmental actors, led by Université Laval’s Fannie Lafontaine, was awarded $2.5 million for the next five years by the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council of Canada (SSHRC) to strengthen justice for victims of international crimes such as war crimes, crimes against humanity and genocide. The Common Law Section of the University of Ottawa, which, along with the Human Rights Research and Education Centre (HRREC), is among the partner organizations, is happy to announce that several of its faculty members are among the project’s co-investigators and collaborators, including Jennifer Bond, François Larocque, Joao Velloso, John Packer, and Penelope Simons.

Professors Jane Bailey and Valerie Steeves among co-investigators in $2.5 million SSHRC Partnership Grant to address rape culture on university campuses
A partnership, led by Shaheen Shariff of McGill University, has been awarded a seven-year $2.5 million grant from the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council of Canada (SSHRC) to investigate and develop policy and practice models to dismantle rape culture in universities. The University of Ottawa, as represented by the Faculty of Law (Common Law Section) and the Faculty of Social Sciences, is pleased to announce that among the project’s co-investigators are Professors Jane Bailey of the Common Law Section and Valerie Steeves of the Department of Criminology.

The Faculty of Law joins consortium addressing access to law and justice, ADAJ
Université de Montréal recently announced the launch of an important research consortium to explore access to law and to justice. The consortium, ADAJ (French site), brings together 42 researchers as well as collaborators from nine universities and 44 justice partners. The Common Law and Civil Law sections of the University of Ottawa’s Faculty of Law, partners in the consortium, are pleased to announce that professors Joao Gustavo Vieira Velloso and Sébastien Grammond are among the consortium’s associate researchers.
