Hussein Al Osman

Biography

Hussein Al Osman is an Assistant Professor in Software Engineering at the School of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science at the University of Ottawa.

He is the recipient of the 2013 Award of Excellence in Teaching by a part-time professor and the recipient of the Best Paper Award in the 12th IEEE/ACM International Symposium on Distributed Simulation and Real-Time Applications. He completed his B.A.Sc in Computer Engineering with highest distinction (Summa Cum Laude) in 2006, his M.A.Sc in Electrical Engineering in 2009 and Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering in 2014, all at the University of Ottawa. Over the course of his academic journey, he has received numerous scholarships (3X NSERC Scholarships, Queen Elizabeth II Graduate Scholarship). He is affiliated with the Multimedia Communication Research Laboratory (MCRLab) and the Distributed and Collaborative Virtual Environments Research (DISCOVER) Laboratory. 

Hussein has numerous peer-reviewed publications in the fields of biomedical engineering, affective computing, active biometrics and haptics. He also reviewed numerous journal and conference articles in the multimedia, biomedical engineering and instrumentation fields. His recent research activities focus on affective computing, human computer interaction and serious gaming.
