Business Analytics and Performance

Business Analytics and Performance

The Telfer School of Management recognizes the need to overcome the reluctance or the inability to leverage big data. The school aims to generate the necessary skills for our graduates to gain insight from big data to drive change and performance.

Business analytics and performance management can lead to improved organizational productivity, especially in the areas where society is facing pressing problems such as in health care, energy, and the environment. Efforts in this field can also help shape policy conversation.

Completed Projects

BR+E Alliance: Performance Measurement Project

The BR+E Alliance (Business Retention & Expansion Alliance) was created in 2009 based on the feedback from area Businesses into how the Municipality of North Grenville, the Chamber and other agencies could help their businesses succeed and grow.

A research project was undertaken to identify key performance indicators which can be measured and tracked. The important aspect of the research, was to
be able to measure the effectiveness of the offered programs and indicate areas which can be improved.

Please contact Angela tyler@telfer.uOttawa.ca for information or to join.

Performance-Based Security Framework

This project involved the development of a transportation security system to gather and organize information, identify Key Performance Indicators (KPI’s), and model and analyze data.

Current Projects

The Ottawa Police Services Analytics Research Program

Collision Analytics: The purpose of the collision analytics research project is to analyze historical collision data in order to better understand the single factors and combination of conditions that lead to collisions. The analysis will help to predict where accidents are more likely to happen and also suggest possible ways to improve conditions and therefore reduce the number of accidents.

Front Line Deployment: The project’s aim is to research deployment methods, analyze the Ottawa Police Services current protocol and recommend other possible methods through the use of simulations.

Government Analytics Network (GAN)

The Government Analytics Network brings together Government departments to learn and share best practices for implementing and improving use of data and analytics.  The GAN meets approximately every second month at Telfer School of Management, University of Ottawa.
