Development and Promotion
The Development and Promotion Office’s mission is to promote our expertise in language teaching and acquisition, in research, in testing and evaluation, and in language planning.
The Office administers an array of OLBI and University of Ottawa initiatives, Destination Clic for example, and works to share the best language-related products, services, and practices around the world.
Following is a list of OLBI’s partnerships with institutions who share our interest in bilingualism and linguistic diversity:
Citizenship and Immigration Canada (CIC)
Citizenship and Immigration Canada works in conjunction with external language schools to support the professional training and continuing education of FLS teachers in Ontario, and has established the Profil de compétences professionnelles des professeurs de français L2 to evaluate their skills.
Council of Europe’s European Centre for Modern Languages (ECML)
OLBI’s agreement with the ECML is intended to prompt dialogue and research projects, focus on the practice of language learning and teaching, and instill a respect for linguistic diversity at the University of Ottawa and beyond.
Inter-American Organization for Higher Education (IOHE)
The IOHE was founded to help develop international relations, improve the quality of academic information, and promote academic collaboration among higher education institutes in the Americas.
Latinus, a university network comprised of seven Romance-language institutions, is committed to promoting the cultural wealth and diversity of the Latin world as well as developing training and research projects concerning relations between sciences, technologies, and societies.
The University of Ottawa and the Ottawa School Boards jointly organize the Concours de français langue seconde Ottawa (CFL2), a biennial contest aimed at French as a second language students in 11th and 12th grade in the Ottawa area.
Government of Canada: Appearance before the House of Commons Standing Committee on Official Languages
Dr. Richard Clément, OLBI Director and Associate Dean of the Faculty of Arts, appeared before the Standing Committee on May 1, 2012, during the consultations on the Roadmap for Canada’s Linguistic Duality 2008-2013. He showed how OLBI and the University of Ottawa can be of significant assistance to the Government of Canada in its leadership role with respect to official languages in Canada.
