Frederic Perras, formerly of the Bryce Group, has earned a trifecta of prestigious prizes for his Ph.D. thesis entitled, "Structural insights from the NMR spectroscopv of quadrupolar nuclei: exploiting electric field gradient and spin–spin coupling tensors”.  Last year, he was awarded the Governor General’s Gold Medal in Science and Engineering in recognition of the most outstanding doctoral performance in science and engineering at the University of Ottawa. His thesis work also garnered international acclaim with the 2015 IUPAC-SOLVAY International Award for Young Chemists. Now, Fred has won the 2016 Raymond Andrew Prize from the Ampere Society. This highly competitive international prize in magnetic resonance has rarely been awarded to North Americans, and solidifies Fred's reputation as a future leader in his field. Fred published 26 papers with the Bryce group and was invited to write a review on his thesis topic for Pure and Applied Chemistry. Congratulations Fred!

The Capital Educators’ Awards recognize the achievements of outstanding educators and celebrates public education in our community – across the entire spectrum from kindergarten to PhD. Award recipients are announced at a gala dinner and ceremony each spring, aptly called EduGala.

Finalists are selected by the participating institutions. A community panel of judges then selects the award recipients. All finalists are invited to attend EduGala, and the Award recipients are announced that evening.

Roberto Chica is a recipient of a 2016 Human Frontier Science Program (HFSP) grant to fund cutting-edge work by international teams of scientists. The grant will support a collaborative project with 1.0 Million US Dollars over 3 years aiming at establishing a predictive understanding of the genetic oscillations that underlie the periodic segmentation of the vertebrate body axis. The project was among 32 proposals selected out of 871 submitted applications.

The funded project will be carried out in collaboration with Andrew Oates (University College London) and Hernan Garcia (UC Berkeley).
