OTTAWA, March16, 2016 --University of Ottawa physics professor Robert Boyd has been selected as the winner of the 2016 Charles Hard Townes Award by the Optical Society of America.

OTTAWA, February 17, 2016 — The University of Ottawa is pleased to announce that Suzanne Bouclin and Karin Hinzer are the recipients of the Young Researcher of the Year Award. The two professors are being recognized for their exceptional contributions to research, as well as for their role in effectively training students.

University of Ottawa professor Jackie Dawson of the Department of Geography is one of nine scientists conducting a multifaceted research project  to strengthen navigation, emergency response and cultural protection in the North. 

The University of Ottawa has been awarded eight new Canada Research Chairs and will see seven more renewed, for a total of $13.8 million in research funding.The latest appointed chairs, announced at the University of Ottawa by the Honourable Catherine McKenna, will enhance the University of Ottawa’s breadth of research and expertise in areas such a ultra-secure quantum communication, viral infection and immunity, mental health as well as in green technologies in order to meet Canada’s environmental ambitions and commitments.

OTTAWA, December 8, 2015  —  Professor Andrew Pelling, cross-appointed to the Department of Biology and the Department of Physics, has been selected as a TED Fellow, making him one of two Canadians to join a class of 21 change-makers from around the world in February 2016 who will share ideas worth spreading from the TED stage in Vancouver.

OTTAWA, November 30, 2015 -- A team of molecular cardiologists at the University of Ottawa has linked a gene, which had never been suspected of playing a role in blood pressure regulation, with human hypertension. The discovery, which was published in the prestigious scientific journal Nature Communications, may lead to new targets that would improve treatments for patients with high blood pressure.
