uOttawa PhD Student Lands Tenure Track Position in “Law, Robotics and Society” at Windsor Law
University of Ottawa doctoral student Kristen Thomasen will soon be joining the University of Windsor’s Faculty of Law as an Assistant Professor in Law, Robotics and Society. This position is the first of its kind in North America, responding to the growing impact of robotics, automation and artificial intelligence on the law. The creation of this position marks a significant recognition of the emerging field of law and robotics, pioneered in Canada and on the global stage by Prof. Ian Kerr, Canada Research Chair in Ethics, Law and Technology.

Indigenuity: Faculty of Law Professors Featured Prominently in New Edition of Research Perspectives
The latest edition of the University of Ottawa’s Research Perspectives magazine, subtitled Indigenuity, explores issues affecting Canada’s First Nations Peoples. Articles feature the research of numerous Faculty of Law professors, including Larry Chartrand, Darren O’Toole, Angela Cameron and Sarah Morales of the Common Law Section, and Sébastien Grammond and Ghislain Otis of the Civil Law Section.

Engineer-Philosopher Joins uOttawa Common Law to Study Robot Ethics
Dr. Jason Millar will join uOttawa Common Law as a SSHRC Postdoctoral Fellow this spring. Over the next two years he and Professor Ian Kerr will investigate the ethical and regulatory dimensions of “social robots”—robots designed to engage us on an emotional level.
